George joined Fareshare as CEO in June 2023, bringing over 35 years of retail and food manufacturing experience. From his initial 10 years with Unilever, his international career progressed to senior roles at M&S, Tesco, John Lewis, and Coles in Australia.

Last year Fareshare redistributed 55,000 tonnes of food, equivalent to 128m meals, mitigating the waste of 95,000 tonnes of Co2e. We do this by working with over 600 food companies to collect their surplus food and redistribute it via our 35 regional warehouses to over 8500 charities, who in turn provide all manner of services that tackle the root cause of food poverty – everything from school clubs to community centres and all points in between.

Our strategy is to engage government, industry, funders and other charities to step change the amount of surplus food redistributed in the UK through subsidy and tax reform, new models of food sourcing, and collaboration across all participants in the sector.
